Playa del Carmen de Barbate, in Cádiz, has been chosen as the most accessible beach in Spain in the fifth edition of a national campaign that seeks to promote the involvement of coastal municipalities in providing their beaches with elements of universal accessibility.

The campaign, organized by the company specialized in street-level solutions Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions, has recorded a total of 65,297 votes, of which 41.3% (27,000 votes) pronounced the winner as Playa del Carmen.

57 beaches distributed along the Spanish coast accessible for people with reduced mobility took part in the campaign.

The Carmen beach has 1,300 meters long and 40 meters wide. It is an urban beach that has reserved parking spaces, a promenade or an accessible pedestrian path, access to the beach without any obstacle, walkways, technical aids to bathe (amphibious chairs, etc.) and support staff.

As winner, Playa del Carmen will receive €1,000 for the provision of materials for improved accessibility.
